8 Quick Tips to Improve Air Quality in Office Buildings.jpgJust like any indoor space, the air inside office buildings can become. a repository for unpleasant odors, airborne particles, allergens, and more. Some industries naturally produce or use chemicals, dust, odors, airborne particles or moisture.

Poor indoor air quality can result in an unpleasant environment for workers, clients, or anyone else who visits a commercial space. Luckily there are a few quick tips you can follow to improve air quality in office buildings, including small things you can do in a day or more longer-term solutions.

1) Open windows often

One of the most simple and straightforward methods to improve air quality in office buildings is the same one you'd use if you burned toast at home. Open the windows and let the fresh air in! Do this on a regular basis, if possible.

2) Fire up the fans

Use fans, especially in tandem with open windows, to circulate air and disperse unpleasant odors and the like. If you have fans that vent outside such as attic fans that's even better.

3) Vet the ventilation

Make sure your HVAC system and any internal fans, such as those in moist areas like bathrooms, vent outside properly.

4) Keep it clean

Wiping down surfaces, vacuuming floors, and cleaning all upholstered items will also go a long way toward keeping the environment free of dust, particles, and other pollutants.

5) Put out some plants

Some houseplants can help scrub harmful chemicals like benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene from the air, according to the University of Minnesota Extension. They also look nice to boot! Just be sure not to over-water plants, as that can result in excess moisture in the air.

6) Add an air purifier

An office air purifier is a more long-term and comprehensive solution to improve the air quality in office buildings. Not only can they help eliminate odors and bacteria, but also prevent mold and mildew and provide relief from allergies and colds.

7) Handle humidity

Humidity — either too much or too little — can create an unpleasant indoor environment. Commercial dehumidifiers and humidifiers can provide essential moisture and indoor environment control.

8) Install a smoke eater

Prohibiting smoking in indoor spaces entirely obviously helps to improve the air quality in office buildings. If that's not possible, smoke eaters can help filter harmful carcinogens from the air and keep the environment smelling fresh.
